The chefs, volunteers and guests who make up our Signature Chefs Events community are coming together in new, innovative ways to suport moms and babies this year.

We are following state mandated guidelines in response to COVID-19 and will not have an in-person event this year. So, we are preparing an exciting, new Virtual Gala for your 2020 March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction experience!

We need your help now more than ever. Your support funds:

  • COVID-19 interventions and support for moms and babies
  • Programs that promote health equity for moms and babies and directly combat racial disparities in maternal and child health
  • Free virtual NICU support program for families
  • Virtual prenatal programs for moms-to-be
  • Educational programs, including live Facebook panel discussions, to get info into the hands of moms and families
  • Necessary supplies for expectant mothers including blood pressure cuffs and masks and so much more!

Includes nurses  in general medical/surgical or specialty unit area of nursing who function in the Charge Nurse, ANM, or Supervisor role. Includes Adult ICU/CCU, IMC, cath lab and special procedures, PTCA Interventional Radiology, ER, Surgical, Labor & Delivery, NICU with intermediate care units and PICU.
Innovation in Clinical Advancement (UPDATED)
Recognizes an individual (nurse, researcher or other clinical provider) whose innovation has improved patient safety, quality of care and patient outcomes in the healthcare environment.  Innovation can be in the form of products, programs, projects, or interventions that improve care.

March of Dimes has been honored to celebrate nurses from all over Washington for 20 years! In order to celebrate these amazing nurses, we love to hear about the work that they have done. Please keep in mind that when you submit a nomination, part of the score is based on what you write. The more information and DETAILS you can give, the more successful your nominee will be! 

Nominees, part of your score is also based on what you write, so please be sure you answer the questions fully with a specific example and details to tell us about the amazing work that you've done. Keep in mind that you do NOT need to apply in the category that you were nominated in, if you feel like your work fits better in another category, feel free to make the change.

Here is an example of an application answer from a couple years ago that was submitted by one of our winners:
How do you demonstrate strong leadership in order to impact positive change in the profession or within the workplace?
I am a strong patient and nurse advocate. My 43 year career has primarily been divided between neuroscience staff nurse and neuroscience clinical nurse specialist/educator along with a few other leadership positions including nurse manager, over the years. My initial consideration in regard to any new initiative is: 1) Is this the right for the patient and 2) is this the right task or procedure for the nurse; specifically Is it appropriate, reasonable, possible (in addition to everything they need to do for their patients), safe, and within their scope of practice. I speak to decisions in meetings with thoughtful consideration of both 1) and 2). Most of the time, if it is right for the patient, it is right for the nurse.
I am a team player. I will assist with teaching where I am not the leader but as a member of the team, such as orientation, skills, repetitive unit inservice education, large roll outs (bedside nurses performing IV therapy; electronic medical record systems), and other non-neuro acute and critical care topics. If I need to be a nursing assistant in the moment to help the nurse or a nursing assistant, I will do that for a needed task such as mobilizing patients, personal hygiene, and assisting with meals.
I model strong communication skills by introducing myself to patients, families, staff, and other team members. I demonstrate best practices when assisting nurses or other staff with a procedure or participating in a discussions with patients and families. I complete communication loops if there is a remaining question or action to be done by returning to the patient, family, nurse, other staff or other colleague as needed. After being asked about a clinical situation and assisting the nurse with a solution, I return to evaluate the results of my input or if other actions are needed.
During quality and safety discussions, I offer myself as a resource to those involved I ask questions around any concerns I may have, not to find fault with the individual but to determine contributing factors. I often say, part of my job is to ask questions.
I think critically in regard to presentations and publications . I assume responsibility for anything I am asked to present, write or review. I am currently an ad hoc reviewer for a number of clinically focused nursing journals including American Journal of Nursing, Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, Critical Care Nurse, American Journal of Critical Care, and Heart and Lung. My own presentations and publications are supported by current evidence. I have declined authorship when I feel a manuscript or quality improvement/research project is flawed or lacking merit. If I make an error, I say so.
I have professional integrity.
I am goal oriented. I want to see work result in sustainable outcomes rather than never ending repetitive processes. I critically evaluate the work completed to date and I am open to constructive criticism. My persistence has brought about improvements in regard to documentation, safety, and quality issues and some have extended beyond the walls of the neuroscience units to all units or in other departments. I support improvement in quality and safety issues through communication, both verbal and in writing. I currently maintain 45 policies and procedures in my full time position and have maintained 10-15 in my part time position. I use data and evidence to support my efforts and provide feedback to other leadership.
Last but not least, I acknowledge the everyday things that nurses do to promote optimal outcomes. The work of a bedside nurse often goes under-recognized publicly.
