nurses throughout the community. Nurse of the Year events honor those who make a
difference in the lives of so many. Nominate an outstanding nurse today!

2020 CATEGORIES

ADVANCED PRACTICE 
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Certified Nurse Midwife, Nurse Practitioner (RN, CNS, CNM, NP, CRNA). Must hold one or more of the following degrees: MSN, MN, DNP, Ph.D. 

CARE MANAGEMENT 
Includes industry professionals specializing in health insurance providers.

CHARGE RN 
Nurses assuming shift or clinical leadership in any setting.

CRITICAL CARE / EMERGENCY CARE      
(adult or pediatric) Includes adult intensive care unit (ICU), cardiac care unit (CCU), intermediate care unit (IMC), catheter lab and special procedures, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and interventional radiology. Includes ER, flight, ambulatory, pre-hospital, triage and pediatric ER.

DISTINGUISHED NURSE OF THE YEAR 
Recognizes nurses who demonstrate a high level of competency throughout their career, demonstrate leadership and excellence while continuously seeking to further the professional development of others. 

GENERAL MEDICAL
Medical, orthopedics, neurological, renal, respiratory, OR & endoscopy.

NICU / PEDIATRIC 
Neonatal intensive care unit, special care nursery, newborn intensive care unit, intensive care nursery (ICN) and special care baby units. Includes nurery, general pediatric units, pediatric clinics, and pediatric intensive care units (PICUs).  

NURSING ADMINISTRATION 
Includes entrepreneurs, consultants, executives, administrators, and senior leaders. Performance patient safety, initiatives based in the community and/or hospital settings.

NURSE HERO
Recognizes nurses that show exemplary leadership or patient care in response to the COVID-19 public health crisis. 

NURSING MANAGEMENT 
Those with administrative or supervisory roles at the department or service line levels, house supervisors or administrative officers of the day who oversee global nursing and/or operations for a specified period of time.

NURSING SUPPORT
Those individuals who support leaders or help clinical staff provide care to clients/patients such as nursing assistants, monitor technicians, unit clerks, coordinators or assistants.

NURSING EDUCATION & RESEARCH / CLINICAL EDUCATION 
Includes university, college, and junior college nurse educators. Must hold one or more of the following degrees: MSN, MS, DNP, Ph.D. Clinical nurse educators of simulation coordination, CDI’s, Diabetes, Preceptors trainers including ACLS or PALS.

ONCOLOGY 
Nursing in all oncology settings, adult and pediatric. 

RISING STAR / EMERGING LEADER 
Nurses with fewer than three years of experience and exemplifies outstanding care, leadership, and professionalism.

SPECIALTY CATEGORY
Includes all of the following:
COMMUNITY HEALTH - Includes nurses who specialize in behavioral health (mental health, Nurse Psychotherapist and addictive services) and/or public health (public health, clinic, office and other ambulatory care settings. School nurses, transplant coordinators, parish and prison nursing and occupational nurses). 
HOSPICE / HOME HEALTH / PALLIATIVE CARE / LONG TERM ACUTE CARE - Nursing in inpatient hospice settings, nursing care for patients in specialty long term acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, active rehabilitation, and long term care facilities and nursing in all home health care settings including case management in any care health care setting. 
INTEGRATIVE / HOLISTIC THERAPY - Recognizes nurses who have received specialized training and/or certification in the use of holistic therapies. Applies holistic/integrative therapy knowledge and skills as part of their formal role regardless of setting. Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the selection and use of holistic modalities to achieve positive outcomes for their clients/patients.
WOUND/OSTOMY - Nurses certified in Wound/Ostomy or Continence and using specialized knowledge and skills provide evidence-based care to clients experiencing wound, ostomy, or continence issues in any healthcare setting.

SURGICAL SERVICES 
Surgical services including perioperative, preoperative, post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and day surgery. 

WOMEN'S HEALTH 
Antepartum, intrapartum, labor and delivery, maternal/ baby care, postpartum and gynecology.
